I leave for staging in Philadelphia tomorrow morning….now there are many levels of irony here.

1)  Delta has informed me that because I am ‘Gold’ in their FF program I will be upgraded to first class….shades of my previous corporate life.  But I have to look at the irony of departing for the Peace Corps in a first class airline seat.  Hmm..gotta love the fact they won’t charge me for 2+ yrs worth of luggage.

2)  They are flying 38 people from all over the US into Philadelphia for staging.  But we are flying out of JFK on 9/11………now there are MANY levels of irony here but I will quote my son who said, “Don’t try to figure it out.”  The Fed Gov’t prevails!  (And I think the tickets might have been cheaper–your tax savings at work.)

3)  We will board a bus on Saturday morning and make our way north.   (OK JFK has no really good hotels nearby for staging, but LaGuardia?  20 of them right across the street–but remember what my son said…Don’t try to figure it out!)

4)  I’m 20 pounds under the Peace Corps guidelines for checked baggage..but ~4 inches OVER the limit for carry-on.  PLEASE God, can there be a cosmic equalizer that lets me through all the red tape?

Enough irony and on to some real thoughts…THANK YOU to all of you who have responded to my blog, e-mailed me your thoughts, called me at the last minute, attended one of my departure parties, and generally participated in a successful departure.  I am SO very blessed by your love and good wishes.
