Peace Corps Washington says I do not need immediate surgery! I’ve got to tell you, I’m surprised because the doctor in Skopje recommended surgery. I was afraid the legally-cautious medical culture in America would have me on an airplane. But YAY! Off I go to work tomorrow!!! Now mind you it snowed ~4 inches today, but I will put on my Sorrel snow boots and CAREFULLY and s.l.o.w.l.y walk the mile to work.
Now on that subject, let me tell you that I got 4 phone calls and 3 Skype messages from co-workers today all asking if I needed anything and how could they help. Even the boss called….and quickly gave the phone to someone with a little more English. But I had offers of food, shopping and even companionship should I want it…another example of the big hearts of the Macedonian people.
Our Peace Corps Country Director was supposed to come visit me in Kriva Palanka Wednesday, but last week when I was in Skopje we agreed to delay his visit. So I’ll work on rescheduling that event.
At the moment, I’m a very happy volunteer and I thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and support during this time of difficulty. Mind you, my knee is sore, feels unstable, and ‘delicate’. I’ll have to be very careful walking and leave extra time……but I’m sure that given time and whatever treatment is prescribed, I’ll be hiking the Osogovo Mountains. Thanks for being on this journey with me.
